As a New Year begins, we are very pleased to deliver to you another issue of SIG 1: Perspectives on Language Learning and Education. Winter began early this year with lots of snow and cold weather across much of the nation. Predictions are for this to continue for the duration of winter, so this very chilly season of indoor pursuits is a good time to brew a warm beverage, pull up a blanket, and settle in with some excellent professional reading.
In keeping with the SIG 1 tradition, this January issue is devoted to the topic of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). As you read further, you will find articles by practice experts including Lynne Hewitt, Pamela Rosenthal Rollins, Sylvia F. Diehl, and Siva Priya Santhanam. These articles are focused on intervention topics and theoretical foundations that are relevant for children and adults who have varying degrees of ASD. The array of articles covers cognitive behavioral therapy, narratives, social comic strips, and adult social communication, so we hope that there is something for every SIG 1 affiliate in this issue of Perspectives. Before you dive into these compelling pieces, please share a few moments with me to summarize the activities and direction of our SIG.
