As we head into the heat of the summer, your SIG 1 Coordinating Committee is pleased to present this “hot-off-the-press” issue of Perspectives. It is a goal of SIG 1, Language Learning and Education, to provide high-quality continuing education (CE) information to you through Perspectives articles that are written with practitioners in mind. This August issue is devoted to the topic of information processing. In this issue, Gail Richard, Board of Directors Vice President for Speech-Language Pathology Practice, provides an overview of factors to consider when diagnosing auditory processing disorders, and Diane Williams summarizes some neuroscientific findings as related to language processing and autism spectrum disorders. In addition, Susan Nittrouer challenges us to re-examine the role of auditory processing and consider the possibility that perceptual organization deficits may contribute to language comprehension problems, while Ron and Sandi Gillam provide additional insights and encourage caution regarding programs designed to train working memory skills.
