During the past several months, I had the opportunity and pleasure to serve as the Associate Editor for the Division 1, Language Learning and Education Newsletter. In that capacity, I worked closely with and learned a substantial amount about the process involved in producing a newsletter from Patty Prelock, who was the previous Newsletter Editor. Division 1 members who have received newsletters that were developed under Patty’s direction are keenly aware of the reputation that our newsletter has as a high quality publication. I am grateful for the mentoring that Patty provided me. The “apprenticeship” that I served in preparation for the position of Newsletter Editor was further facilitated by Jean White, who is the production editor and desktop publisher for the ASHA division newsletters. Jean was and continues to be an invaluable resource for me on production of the newsletter. She provides significant support (and timely reminders) to the Editors of the division newsletters. Thus, it is with great excitement and anticipation that I assume the role and responsibilities as Editor. I also am happy to announce that Mona Griffer has agreed to step into the position of Associate Editor to begin with the spring 2000 issue of the newsletter. I look forward to collaborating with Mona and other Division 1 affiliates in maintaining our reputation for an outstanding division newsletter.
