The Division 1 Steering Committee is proud to be offering two funding opportunities for our affiliates: our Starfish Mini-Grant and our newly developed Graduate Student Research Awards (see explanation in this issue of Perspectives). We are also going to continue our efforts to bring you continuing education opportunities through clinical skills workshops the day before the ASHA Convention. For the 2002 ASHA Convention in Atlanta, we are pleased to announce that Jim Stone will be presenting on Wednesday, November 20, from 1:00–5:00 p.m., “Using Language Research to Redesign Instruction in Early Literacy.“
I would like to thank all those affiliates who completed the Division 1 Response Forms. Several affiliates identified an interest in participating in the division’s activities; we will be calling on you. Also, numerous ideas were shared by affiliates regarding topics they would like to see addressed. Several categories for topics to consider in our professional development activities were raised including:
