The table on page 37 displays Division l’s current and proposed financial status through the year 2000.
Expenses for 1997 reflect the percentage of the revenue expended for each of the major budget categories charged to the divisions by ASHA. Salaries and benefits for National Office staff constitute 53% of the average weighted costs for the divisions’ support personnel, including fringe benefits. Previously, the divisions were charged for only 25%. This increase translates into a 28% increase, which has been divided into an 8% actual increase in this expense category for 1998, and a 20% increase in average weighted costs for 1999. Specifically, this includes 1.60 FTE staff persons for all 15 divisions. Telephone charges for conference calls and other communications charges constitute approximately 1% of the total budget as do costs for office supplies and materials. Meetings of the five-member Division 1 Steering Committee were projected to be held twice a year at the ASHA National Office with each meeting lasting 2 ½days in length, resulting in total costs estimated at 30% of the division budget. Other expenses include such items as temporary personnel hired by the National Office, support for other professional services, task forces and workshops, and staff travel when needed.
